The most important tool you MUST have if data is irreplaceable
This is a term used to decribe the removing of a hard drive internal platter or reflecting disk into another harddrive of same make & model in the hopes of reading the data off the platter
Remember if data is important please consider the experts!
Remember depending on model removing just the heads without referencing to original alignment can be fatal for data recovery
The process of transplanting platters from one hard drive assembly to another
First step in do it yourself hard drive repair
Platters hold your unique information known as data, one would think that if your hard drive has failed that moving these disks over to a functioning hard drive would be a simple fix.
These surfaces have tracks lay-ed like like that on a old record LP
Think of it this way... if you have multiple platters in a cylinder that are not exactly centered then to help balance this irregularity you put a weight much like a lead weight on a car tire to help balance the rotation, then once rotation & balance is perfected... you then lay down the tracks to make a perfect circle.
What this does is now make the order and position of the platters to this hard drive unique
That means these need to be removed as a set retaining the exact position & balance.
What can also complicate things further is the aluminum dividers that are position between platters to help create a perfect even air flow for even flying height of the read write heads
Remember once lost this can almost be impossible to realign.
